Calendário Johnson’s Baby 2011 – Que país é esse? (What country is this?)

Tens of millions of “blacks” live in Brazil, but according to Johnson’s Baby products there are no “black” babies. Go figure!

The article below is in Portuguese. It begins:

“The Brazilian calendar Baby Johnson’s 2011 seems to represent the children of another country, an imaginary country dressed in white people’s minds that becomes an unattainable allegorical ideal in real life.”

The article goes on to explain that the featured infants were chosen by popular votes via a television advertising campaign. Although this is yet another example of the racism in Brazil, Johnson’s is complicit in that racism by publishing a calendar that perpetuates the erasure of black people from the society.
