The quote above, popularized by Barack Obama during his 2008 campaign for the Presidency, is from poet June Jordan (July 9, 1936 – June 14, 2002). The line appears in “Poem for South African Women“, Passion: New Poems (1977-1980.

Today marks the 75th Anniversary of her birth.
